Take Action

Fighting for the civil rights of ALL Americans is a worthy and dignified pursuit. But the NAACP cannot fight this fight alone. We need our members. We need each and every one of you to take action on issues that are important to you.

Join the NAACP local Branch. Your commitment means so much to the fight.

Talk to your government and religious officials. Tell them how you feel on issues that are before them. This could be the most important volunteer action you ever take.

Report civil right violations right away. Work to stop racism by taking an anti-racism stance.

Talk to Your Representatives

Since 9-11, the ability of the American public to contact their government representatives has been severely restricted. Partially due to the anthrax mail scams, it now takes several weeks and even months to get a letter to your Congressional leaders. Therefore, the contact information on this web site is adjusted in order to give you more direct contact.

The effectiveness of your message varies greatly by the medium you choose to convey it. For instance, even though electronic mail (email) is quick and easy, one hand-written letter mailed by US Postal Services will be more effective than 10,000 emails. A faxed personal letter will be more effective than 1000 emails. And a phone call will be more effective than 500 emails.

We urge you to call or write to your representatives on an ongoing basis. Inform them on how you feel on issues that come before them. Are taxes too high for poor people? Is health care lacking for the lower socio-economic families? Is the war in Iraq taking onies and opportunities away from American citizens? Call or write and let them know how you feel.    Contact Information

Report Civil Rights Violations

To disengaged from race issues is to perpetuate racism. If you are not being an anti-racist, then you are a racist since you are supporting a system of white priviledge and dominance.

Every day, we must practice anti-racism. The little things are as important as the bigger ones. When confronting new ideas, restructuring old policies, or enacting new rules and regulations, we need to ask the question, "Where is the data on how this new change will impact minorities?" If there is no data, demand it.

Keep the local NAACP informed of the civil rights violations that you witness. File an official NAACP complaint if this violation has directly impacted you.
